Gothic 1 Remake Map & Key Locations

Last updated: 2026-06-24

The colony is one connected open valley sealed under the magic barrier. There's no fast travel early, so knowing the landscape is a real advantage. This page maps the landmarks that matter; pair it with the walkthrough for story order.

The three camps

Swamp Camp (Sect)Southern swampsRune magic, Sleeper worship, swampweed

Key areas to learn early

  • Old Mine — the Old Camp's ore source and a frequent quest hub.
  • Free Mine / abandoned mines — contested ore deposits; good for farming ore once you can fight there.
  • The Sleeper's temple — the southern endgame zone; dangerous until late.
  • Xardas' tower — the renegade mage's home, important to the main plot.
  • Troll and orc territory — high-level regions; avoid until you have strong weapons.

Focus stones

Five focus stones are bound to the barrier and recur throughout the story. You don't need them all at once, but mark each one you pass — the main quest sends you back to gather and use them.

Getting around safely

  • Travel by day when you can; some predators are nastier at night.
  • Pull enemies to chokepoints and high ground rather than fighting in the open.
  • Keep a mental note of trainer locations so you can spend learning points without a long detour — see trainers.

Next: decide which camp to join, or plan your best build.

FAQ

Is there a map in Gothic 1 Remake?
You can acquire in-game maps of the colony. They show major landmarks but no live player marker in the classic style, so learning the landscape by sight still matters.
Where are the three camps located?
The Old Camp sits in the centre around the main ore mine, the New Camp is in the valley to the north-west by the river, and the Swamp Camp (Sect) is in the swamps to the south.
What are focus stones used for?
Focus stones are tied to the magic that powers the barrier and feature in the main story. Note their locations as you explore — you'll be sent back to several of them.
